| What To Look For In
Used Golf Clubs
If you are only starting to play the game of golf, it might
be a good idea to consider getting a set of used golf clubs.
You may find that golf is not your cup of tea, and you might
regret purchasing a new set. Another reason is that you may
not be sure what kind of clubs are right for you when you
first start. Therefore it's a wise move to start with a set of
inexpensive golf clubs...at least for the first year or so.
Then when you are ready to purchase your first set of
preowned golf clubs, take the advice of people who know the
equipment, but bear in mind that what works for them may not
necessarily work for you. It's most important to identify the
used clubs that suit your own ability. Just remember that
everybody's game is different.
The best way to test a set of used golf clubs is to hold
them in your hand and swing them to get a feel for them. The
general feel of a golf club is the most important. Feel can
best be described as the way a player feels a club when he or
she swings it. This depends on the flexibility of the shaft
and its swing weight.
Avoid inexpensive alloy heads and search for a club head
that is made of stainless steel. If you do buy used clubs,
make sure they have big club heads. They are far more
forgiving, and that enlarged sweet spot can give a ball
maximum distance even with off-center hits. A graphite shaft
is the best for a beginner, even though it is slightly more
expensive that steel shafts. It has a lighter overall weight,
which lets a beginner swing the club faster, even with a large
club head. Grips are an easy and inexpensive way to improve
second hand golf clubs, so if the clubs feel right, but the
grips don't, then you can get the clubs re-gripped
inexpensively.
The most important thing is to test out the golf clubs before
purchasing them in order to find a set of used golf clubs that
suit your body, swing, and game. So don't hesitate to ask the
person or store you're buying them from if you can actually play
a round of golf with the clubs. Hey...it never hurts to ask,
right? And in the long run, you'll feel better making the
purchase if you actually used the clubs first.
